NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED USE OF VETERANS’ DAY
AS A DAY OF STUDENT ATTENDANCE
Prior to the regular 51风流 meeting, a Public Hearing will be held at 9:30 am - 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 regarding the proposal to utilize Veterans’ Day as a day for student attendance, parent-teacher conferences, or teacher in-services or teacher institutes. CPS seeks this holiday waiver pursuant to Section 24-2 of the School Code. Per the School Code, veterans will be honored on Veterans’ Day with a moment of silence and recognized through instructional activities conducted on that day. For the 2020-2021 school year, the district will also honor veterans on November 3, 2020, the 2020 General Election Day. Testimony from educators, parents and members of the public will be heard during the public hearing.
Pursuant to the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation dated July 24, 2020 and to protect the public’s health in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the public will have access to the meeting via live stream at cpsboe.org, and the public participation will be held via an electronic platform.
For this Public Hearing, advance registration to speak will be available beginning Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 10:30 am and will close on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 5:00 pm or until all ten (10) slots have been filled, or whichever occurs first. The Public Participation segment of the Public Hearing will conclude after the last person who has registered to speak has spoken, or at 10:00 a.m. whichever occurs first.
Members of the public may submit written comments related to this waiver application via the Written Comments Form for the Public Hearing on the Board’s website at www.cpsboe.org or mailed to 1 N Dearborn, Suite 950 by Thursday, August 27, 2020.
